XFree86-1.3u1, on NetBSD 0.9 gives me the following problems:

1)xconsole (or xterm -C) gives me the console (or term) with the following
message on it `couldn't open console'

2) The `delete' and `erase' functions on the xterm are not tied.
So, wheras ^H erases a character, it does not delete it and i get
error messages such as `cleax^H^Har not found'
^? DELETES characters, but they remain visible on the screen and the
  cursor does not move back.
They seem to swap roles depending on what i set an the erase character
  in my stty.

3) Sometimes, the xterminals (and ONLY the xterms) refuse to respond to
the keyboard. Any new terminals called up too behave the same way and
the only way out is to exit X.

Why?

Aside: I ftp-ed if_ed.c for the ne2000 driver from NetBSD-current in sun-lamp.
How do i compile and install it?
