Date: 13 Oct 1993 00:06:06 GMT Organization: University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Lines: 20 Distribution: world Message-ID: <29fgpeINN97h@uwm.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: 129.89.9.17 Well A couple of my friends and I are just about set to get PC's. I will be buying the pieces and putting them together myself. I got just about everything set, and I was going to get a Adaptec 1742, but since it's been discontinued in favor of the 2742, I have been looking at that one. However the big sticking point is, I will be putting BSD on them (Either Net or Free BSD). But ... no drivers are currently available for it :-( Does anyone know if the 2742 has a compatibility mode like the 1742? Also does anyone know about info relating to the release of driver info. I called Adaptec and it seemed like they just gave me the run-around and didn't have much info. Did anyone else have better luck? I would like to get the Adaptec, but if I can't get drivers it won't do me any good. Any suggestion: Bustek? Ultastor? (I really want to get EISA controller) Scott Knaffla, Software Engineer McHugh Freeman 20975 West Swenson Drive Waukesha, WI 53186-4065 E-mail: scottk@miller.cs.uwm.edu
