Message-ID: <1993Oct15.053347.22093@frost.bain.oz.au> Summary: upgrading to NetBSD from 386bsd using the source (Luke). Keywords: NetBSD, compile, upgrade Organization: Bain & Company X-Newsreader: Tin 1.1 PL5 Date: Fri, 15 Oct 1993 05:33:47 GMT Lines: 21 I currently have 386bsd 0.1 (0.2.3pk) running. If I grab all the source files for NetBSD-current (I have enough disk), is there any reason I can't just compile everything there, install it (maybe while booted from floppy so as to avoid busy text files and nasty clobbering) and voila be running NetBSD? Do I have to change some devices while I'm at it? I already have the partition table set up the way I want it so I'm not keen to go through the whole installation from scratch. Or am I better off getting one of the binary distributions instead? (I do want the source, anyway.) (BTW, I have a SCSI disk so I don't anticipate any problems with NetBSD like others have been having with IDE.) Pointers to docs or personal experiences related (not too personal, mind you :-) are gratefully accepted. regards, Callum -- Callum Gibson callum@frost.bain.oz.au Fixed Income Division, DB Bain & Co. 61 2 258 1620
