FreeBSD has slightly different defaults for the NE2000 card than 386BSD 0.1: it now expects the card at ioaddr: 0x280, irq: 5, instead of the 386BSD default of ioaddr: 0x300, irq 9(2). My NE2000 is a true Novell card (not a clone) and only supports four ioaddr settings, the lowest of which is 0x300 (I think the others are 0x320, 0x340, and 0x360, but who cares). Can the ed0 device's defaults be changed without recompiling the kernel? I had sort of hoped to be able to ftp the sources over, rather than copying 40+ MSDOS floppies... ...and now, back to your regularly scheduled thread... -- _____ David M.
