Date: 17 Oct 1993 13:46:15 +0100 Organization: Hanse Networking e.V. Hamburg, Germany. Lines: 31 Message-ID: <29rer5$4u@encap.Hanse.DE> NNTP-Posting-Host: encap.hanse.de Keywords: SCSI, DISKLABEL Hostadapter: Adaptec AHA-1542B Disk : Fujitsu M 2624F My BIOS reports the disk with 495 Cylinders, 32 Heads and 64 Sectors/ Track. These are the translated parameters which I use for my disk- label and I never had any problems. At boot, the SCSI-driver reports my disk with 1429 Cyls, 11 Heads and 64 Sectors/Track. This is what I don't understand: BIOS: 495 Cyl * 32 Tracks/Cyl * 64 Sec/Track = 1013760 Sectors SCSI: 1429 Cyl * 11 Tracks/Cyl * 64 Sec/Track = 1006016 Sectors Which information is right ? I'm also confused that the SCSI-system thinks that the disk has 11 Heads, that seems too much for me. Also 11 is an odd number. (perhaps one side reserved for servo and parity information ?). All I want is to use the untranslated physical parameters of my disk in the disktab, because the UFS uses them to put files in rotational best position. Can somebody help me or mail me at least the true physical parameters of the Fujitsu M 2624F. Jan-Oliver -- Jan-Oliver Neumann <jan@encap.Hanse.DE> Hanse Networking e.V. Hamburg, FRG.
