2 options:
a) read a book on configuring sendmail.
b) Edit /etc/sendmail.cf (or cp /etc/sendmail.cf_proto to it, and then edit)
Replace all the mentionings of relay-hosts, with the name of a
machine right near you, that knows how to send mail, best is your
   official local mail-relay-host.
follow the other directions in /etc/sendmail.cf replacing where
   neccessary.

mail should land in /var/mail not in spool/mail.

if above fails go to option a.
Cheers
