Since I've never heard of anyone else having the problem, I
gather it is pretty rare.  My machine has a localbus ide
controller on the motherboard.  A call to the manufacturer
confirmed my suspicions of the conflict.  Re-configuring the
1542C didn't help either.  Fortunately I was able to disable the
ide controller with a jumper and all has been happy since.  :)
