As indicated in my previous post (forwarded file from David Greenman) there is a problem with the probing code for FreeBSD which makes the ISOLAN driver probe the WD8003 card, even if the WD8003 *was* found correctly... So, commenting out the ISOLAN driver in the config file seems the thing to do, and indeed, IT WORKS!!!!! (sorry about the caps, but this got me *down*) A temporary workaround to get the source distribution onto the BSD system is to FTP to a DOS partition using some functional FTP program (I used CUTP - NCSA). Then mount the DOS diask as pcfs and extract as pr. usual (i.e. rename alll the source distribution files from their long names; FTP to DOS/BSD box; cat | gzip -d | tar xf - extract; make kernel as per usual).
