Ive been running a 500+ user, 150+ uucp site, 12 dialin , full newsfeed 386bsd 0.1 + PK 0.2.4 386BSD and its remarkably stable. It stays up for weeks on end. On the other end..I have friends with FreeBSD that crash several times a day. This whole 'MY BSD IS BETTER' thing is getting stupid. cor I think you've been very lucky. Both the NetBSD and FreeBSD folks will agree that 386BSD has a *known* bug list as long as your arm. Perhaps your 500+ user, 150+ uucp (do they all log in simultaneously?! :-) site has just had an uncommon run of luck, I don't know, though I'd also say that if it's working that well for you then heck, if it ain't broke don't fix it. As to your crash-once-per-second friends, we always seems to hear about someone with "friends" like this in discussions of this sort, but details are always amazingly sketchy when we try to pin them down! Many many many of us run FreeBSD "for weeks on end" without crashes, so if you have someone who's hardware or FreeBSD config is giving them the blues then you ought to have them contact us. We can't help those who do not ask. Jordan -- (Jordan K. Hubbard) jkh@violet.berkeley.edu, jkh@al.org, jkh@whisker.lotus.ie I do not speak for Lotus, nor am I even a Lotus employee.
