Sci. Lines: 34 My student organization recently received a donation of a working Vax 11/750, RA81 hard drive, tape drive, etc. We'd like to run BSD on it. I just read the FAQ for comp.unix.questions about the legalities, but they're a little sparse on this. So I have some questions: 1. What version of BSD 4.3 can I legally operate on this without a license? 2. If I can only run a subset of BSD 4.3 without a license, what parts? 3. If I download the source code for BSD from a FTP site, then how do I go about "bootstrapping" it? 4. If bootstrapping requires me to acquire a tape or disk pack with binaries, then how do I get it? 5. Are there any volunteers for number 4? 6. Any tips or issues I should be aware of? I will be reading this group more regularly, but a response through email would be preferred. We do have a right-to-use license for VMS, btw, but most of the members of the student organization (user group) have Unix experience. Also, I do have some Unix experience from both a sysadmin's point of view and a user's point of view as well as others in my group. Thank you for any help you can give. -Dave Slotter -- tdslotte@mcs.drexel.edu (preferred) | SysOp, The DUsers (World's first MUG) slotter@gnu.ai.mit.edu | James Creese Student Union Complex DAVE.SLOTTER@p7.f936.n273.z1.fidonet.org | 3210 Chestnut Street 215-895-2573 voicemail 215-895-2579 BBS | Philadelphia, PA 19104-3412, USA
