I put Sendmail 8.5 on all my boxes, and I use .mc files (about 10 lines)
to maintain them.  My particular configuration is neither trivial nor
standard, but I have yet to run into a serious problem with this method
of configuration...

That'd be a NetBSD box and a SunOS 4.1 box.  I don't think it'd be hard
to compile on a BSDi box.
