Well, I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but whenever I insert a boot disk into a compaq, it starts to read the 
disk, then reboots (displays the ram count)...in an infinite loop.

I got the newbootables.cgd off agate, made and installed the cksum (from the bsd tapes) on a SS2, and
have the same cksum as the version I got...

I then did:
cmp dist.fs /dev/fd0
and got
cmp: EOF on dist.fs

I also tried fixit.fs without success.

brian@ucsd:edu told me to try :

 dd if=dist.fs of=/dev/fd0 bs=18k

which I did, with the same results...

Should I try machines other than Compaqs?
