I picked up the NetBSD-0.9 floppies from the net and am trying to install NetBSD on my newly acquired hardware. It runs msdos ok. The system is a AMI board with 486/33, 16meg memory, Adaptec 1542C controller and a Toshiba mk438fb hard disk (plus et4000 vesa video and 2s1p1g, if that matters). It boots the first floppy (kernel) fine, and asks for the second floppy. When I place the second floppy in and hit a character, it correctly announces all the hardware upto the point where it is looking for the disk drives (it finds the floppies). It then issues the messages (case might be off slightly): #start of messages aha_cmd: aha1542 cmd/data port full aha0 at 0x330-337 irq 11 drq 5 on isa aha0: bus speed 200ns cmd fail abort failed in wait #end of messages It sounds like the driver isn't getting a response back from the 1542c. The disk access light is on at this point but the disk isn't doing anything. Suggestions??? Should I investigate a better terminated internal cable for my scsi disk drive, per the net.conversation of a few months ago??? By the way: the floppies worked when I tried them on a machine with a IDE controller... -- Steve Kneuper kneuper@chpc.utexas.edu - Internet System Programming Group University of Texas System (mailcode 78700) Center for High Performance Computing phone: (512)471-2472 10100 Burnet Rd, Austin Tx 78712 fax: (512)471-2445
