If you want to win over your opponent, deploy key technology and leverage of it. For instance, loadable modules, it would be cool to have an auto configuration tool to exploit this feature. I am about to installed netbsd-0.9 some time soon on my system. Does the installation procedure provide a mechanism to optimize my disk performance? I have a 1.2GB scsci disk drive. Hate to just installed a small disk partition and then play around with the disk geometry till I get maximum performance. It would be cool if the installation procedure could determine all that for me. Is my understanding that sun-lamp gets about 1.4MB/sec on their scsci drive. ---------- Different topic, I have discovered the first NetBSD incompatible sound card! The Gravis Ultra Sound (GUS) Card can be initialized under DOS, MACH or Linux but not under NetBSD-0.8, or NetBSD0.9 or SCO. What I have to do now is initialize the card under DOS and then run NetBSD with linux GUS driver. The symptom is that some how the DMA latches on the GUS are not being set properly. With the GUS you program the IRQ and the DMA channel which you are going to use. My next step is to connect my ROLAND keyboard to my GUS and start checking out tunes :-) Tnks, Amancio -- This message brought to you by the letters X and S and the number 3 Amancio Hasty | Home: (415) 495-3046 | ftp-site depository of all my work: e-mail hasty@netcom.com | sunvis.rtpnc.epa.gov:/pub/386bsd/X
