However, as somebody : who has been silently watching the development of 386BSD (and more recently : the *BSD variants) for years, it is all too obvious that the real problem : is the _apparent_ lack of interest in 386BSD. : I disagree. The lack of interest is in the dogfights that persue when one makes a suggestions that is counter to the "system". (whatever it is). : I am not saying that there is no interest in 386BSD. I do talk with people : Your point is well taken. : I think that the questions most people have would be: : 1) When is the next release of 386BSD? : agreed. : 2) Who is actively supporting 386BSD? : agreed. : 3) If the repressed masses who are running and supporting 386BSD are being : ignored by the moderator of c.o.3.announce, why are they not posting : their articles to the other newsgroups that you so gleefully crossposted : this schlock to? : I'm afraid I missed your point. : 4) Don't you think we're all at least a shade above buying into this? : I think your agreeing with me that the moderator is showing a conflict-of-interest. : 5) It appears that you and the moderator of c.o.3.announce are not on : friendly terms - is this so? : We were on better terms before this incident. Many people had told me of his conflict-of-interest, but I dismissed it and at times defended his actions. The intent to delete 386bsd 0.1 proves otherwise. : 6) If so, isn't it a conflict of interest for you to be the one starting : this "discussion"? : As I stated before, I never had any disagreements withe\ the moderator .. till now. Further, not being on freindly terms with the moderator is not a conflict-of-interst. I have not control or responsiblity concearning the moderator. To have a conflict-of-interest I must be responsible for some entity concearing the moderator; I do not. : I believe that cgd is doing a fine job. I firmly believe that it would not : matter one single bit if he were not. c.o.3.announce is just one small : spotlight in this huge BSD arena that serves to highlight items of : particular interest. : I disagree. As moderator of the "announce", a high signal to noise ratio channel, the moderator is in direct control of articles propogated thru it. As such he is a major determining factor in the growth of *BSD. : I further believe that everybody's time would be better spent worrying : about much deeper issues than who moderates one newsgroup. : I agree with you on this. : I myself would : like to see one unified operating system, even if it means some pain and : suffering. I like the idea of 386BSD. I like a number of the extensions : that the NetBSD folks are interested in or have done. I like how easily : FreeBSD installed on my 386sx. I like the sio driver and that is the one : and only reason I decided to (for now) go with FreeBSD. These are ALL : excellent systems. I hate to make difficult choices! : I agree with the above. I have never (and I stated this quite clearly) avdocate the elimination of any of the child *bsd groups : In any case, I really don't believe for a second that this RFD is warranted : or useful, and I think it's an embarassment to the *BSD community that : anybody would waste their time proposing it. : I disagree. The warrented reasons are listed. If you would like to review them again, I will go over them point by point with you.
