I'm afraid I don't see this at all. The README/INSTALL_NOTES for each OS states what hteir goals for the future are, so based on that, and a feature set, you can choose an OS that you think you're more comfortable with. > >Now that they're no longer in progress, let's hear the dirt :-/ >Once again, it seems like irreconcilable differences are probably important >differences. As a laregely regular member of the *BD community, I really don't care that much why there has been no merge. A lot of people (myself included) would have liked to see it, but it isn't going to happen, so let's make do anyhoo. >Hardly unnecessary. I don't see how this implies that there is now some new degree of compettition for users or something like that. Both OSs have different goals, and users will be able to choose based on that and other thigns. >>two groups. We're two groups, providing BSD technology to the world > >Oh, Boo Hoo. The implication in this post was that since they are working on this stuff out of their own spare time, they'd rather not have to deal with 1500 users a day asking them why they haven't merged yet. They just wanted to make sure that everybody understood that they have NO OBLIGATION whatsoever to merge. >Hopefully responses to this post will demonstrate that it's *not* all about ego. who cares if it was the reason? It's not entirely unreasonable that this was the case, and even then, so what? if they don't get along, they don't get along. again, such is life, make the best of it. i've got one machine, so i'm using one particular OS based on my personal appraisal of what the developers are doing, and what the goals for it are. i'm happy with it. i really don't need a point oby point comparision of what the core team for both OSs is doing, have been doing, and want to do.
