Date: 14 Nov 93 19:33:35 Organization: Organization is evil. Lines: 37 Distribution: world Message-ID: <GLASS.93Nov14193335@sun-lamp.postgres.Berkeley.EDU> NNTP-Posting-Host: sun-lamp.cs.berkeley.edu The NetBSD folks were more-or-less uniformly "insulted" by the whole suggestion of the "Peace Prize". I find this difference instructive. - Bill I think i should expand upon this. I was one of the NetBSD people offended by Bill's mail/post. I for one do not do NetBSD for $, I do it for fun. More importantly, NetBSD's decision making is based on careful reasoning by reasonably well-informed and experienced individuals. I do not like the suggestion that for what I view as a *BRIBE*, we or FreeBSD should change our carefully chosen directions. If we have chosen to go our seperate ways for whatever reasons, it is not appropriate to offer bribes to change that decision. As for the greater issue, these discussions have gone on in private for a long time. That they failed for various reasons is indeed unfortunate. However, you the public *MUST* realize that trying to force a merge upon both parties is a mis-guided goal. Some things are just not meant to be. Perhaps other opportunities will arise in the future. As you have seen, the differences betwen the groups are great on many levels. It is my suggestion to the 386bsd/NetBSD/FreeBSD user community that they learn to live with these differences, and enjoy the productive competition that has/will result. later, Adam Glass a NetBSDer -- Adam Glass |E-mail home: glass@sun-lamp.cs.berkeley.edu |Physical : Seattle "reality is for dead birds"
