I couldn't get it working with either the lpt or the lpa drivers. I booted DOS and used both MSD and QAPLUS to check out my parallel port. Both found it at port 3BCh, IRQ 7. This matches up with what is printed in the NetBSD installation notes. I'm attaching an Epson RX/80+ printer to a Gateway 2000 DX66V (JX-30 mb). It a basic 9-pin dot-matrix parallel printer, and it works fine under DOS (blech). I started with the default configuration, i.e. device lpt0 at isa? port "IO_LPT3" tty irq 7 vector lptintr and remade my kernel. When I rebooted the printer's "Ready" light turns itself off during boot autoconfiguration, and won't turn itself back on no matter what buttons I push on the printer. The autoconfigure code didn't find the printer port; should it have? I tried to test the printer by issuing "lptest > /dev/lpt0" as root, and nothing happened. After that, "status 0" messages appeared periodically on the console until I rebooted the machine--someone left some printf calls in lpt.c without #ifdefs around them. I tried again, using the lpa driver: device lpa0 at isa? port "IO_LPT3" tty remade my kernel, and rebooted. When I tried "lptest > /dev/lpa0" or "lptest > /dev/lpa0p" I got "device not configured" errors.
