I actually answered my own question here. I tried this SLIP connection again and this time I had a look at the terminal server port characteristics. There were two settings that looked promising: telnet-transparent and escape-character. I set telnet-transparent and set the escape-character to 0 (which means it uses a BREAK rather than a character code). And...it worked!!! I've had a SLIP connection as above between FreeBSD-1.0R and SunOS 4.1.2 for hours running telnet, rlogin, ftp, xterm, xrn, etc, without any hint of problems. > > > >Any ideas? > > > >--- > note that FreeBSD cannot (at this time) run slip/ppp over a pty due to a > little problem in the pty code, but it should be able to run at the modem > end of things fine.. > > I plan to use this scheme myself with ppp > and had it 'sort of' running with 386bsd (but will eventually have > to fix FreeBSD) Maybe it works in my case because the pty end is SunOS+SLIP. Is the problem you mention specific to FreeBSD? > >Todd Pfaff \ Internet: todd@flex.eng.mcmaster.ca > >Dept. of Mechanical Engineering \ Voice: (905) 525-9140 x22902 > >McMaster University \ FAX: (905) 572-7944 > >Hamilton, Ontario, CANADA L8S 4L7 \ > > > julian > (julian@tfs.com) > > --- Todd Pfaff \ Internet: todd@flex.eng.mcmaster.ca Dept. of Mechanical Engineering \ Voice: (905) 525-9140 x22902 McMaster University \ FAX: (905) 572-7944 Hamilton, Ontario, CANADA L8S 4L7 \
