I'm surprised that nobody has yet invoked Conway's Law, such a favorite of
Fred Brooks, to the effect  that products/systems resemble the
organizations that produce them.  Perhaps that's the real difference
among Linux and the various flavors of BSD.  (Sure, the code is
different, but useful features of one tend to migrate to the others
quickly.)
