Hi,

I need to find out exactly how getty deals with dial
in lines and what the relationship between modem
control signals and the behavior of getty
and tty device drivers under various unix systems are.

For example, I noticed that under aix, an
open("/dev/ttyxx", O_RDRWR) with a modem connected
to it, does not return until a call comes in (the modems
sync and carrier comes up). However, on bsd and osf systems,
the same call returns immediately. Could someone explain
what is happening and/or refer me to a good reference.

Thanks,
Roy
