Early 1542Cs didn't come with properly shielded cables, so a lot of people had problems with SCSI drives not working quite correctly. However, they are now shipping with proper cables, and most people seem to love them. I know I'd prefer one over my 1542B. I haven't heard anything good at all about the 27xx and 26xx series cards, but that's a different matter I suppose.
