I think you vastly overstate the significance of free OSs / free window systems. They are not afraid of us; we are absolutely, utterly insignificant to them. When this Diamond crap came up over a year ago, I took a Net poll on the impact of their decision. I documented 10,000+ lost sales in a month's worth of poll. I wrote this up, sent it to Diamond, and had a nice long talk with them. The bottom line, folks, is that 10,000 SVGA boards are absolutely irrelevent to Diamond's bottom line. Why fight it? Just go find another vendor, and patronize them. This is why XFree86 doesn't bother with Diamond. There are other vendors who contact US to make sure that issues are dealt with; why should we waste our time on troublemakers?
