One question that came up as I looked into the getty code is: Why does getty set the tty attributes to the settings in <sys/ttydefaults.h> (TTYDEF_[IOLC]FLAG) before execing login? Why are the settings getty used when getting the login name *not* good enough for login? It's not like the equipment on the other end will change framing between the login name and the password.
