I am looking for a program that can read the Macintosh Hierarchical
File System (HFS) from UNIX. We are putting a Magnito Optical Drive
on a System V/R3 machine. The MO disks will be written by
Macintoshes, and we would like to read them from UNIX. Nothing fancy,
just a program to read the raw SCSI device and interpret the data
stream as a Mac file system. It would need to find a requested file,
and copy it from the MO disk to the UNIX file system. Eg.,

	maccopy /dev/rsd1 bigbitmap.eps .

We are doing this so that the MO disk can be sneeker-netted from the
Macintosh network to the UNIX network. The disk will contain scanned
bitmapps. A single bitmap could easily be several megs, and a book
may have a gigs worth of bitmaps so the sneeker-net offers large
potential bandwidth (especially if we run :-).

The UNIX system with the MO drive is a Purup PS-Link (Harlequin) RIP
(Raster Image Processor). Its running Tadpole technologies UNIX
(kernel version 1.06) which is SVR3 (or pretty darn close).

I do not read these news groups regularly so please reply via email.
If I find something, and there is interest, I will post a summary.

Thank You,

Mike

P.S. Please forward to any potentially useful groups or individuals.
