HELP! Date: 28 Dec 1993 20:13:55 -0600 Organization: Kansas State University Lines: 38 Message-ID: <2fqp53INN7mf@nbc.ksu.ksu.edu> Reply-To: windsor@matt.ksu.ksu.edu NNTP-Posting-Host: nbc.ksu.ksu.edu I have been trying to install NetBSD-0.9 on my system for a couple of days now... It always dies when I start extracting the set files. I have narrowed it down to bad sectors on the HD, but I would like to work around them. I have answered 'N' - stating that my controller does not automatically remap bad blocks. That didn't seem to help, but I was receiving messages that the bad-block table was bad. What's up here? Do I need to do something to initiate a bad-block table? Or, more precisely... Can I initiate a 'bad-block' table during the installation? I wrote this down when I was extracting base09 first, and here is the exact error message: ./usr/share/man/cat1/pic.0 wd0e: hard error writing fsbn 79590 of 79584-79599 (wd0 bn 132150; cn 524 tn 2 sn 30) wdc0: busy too long, resetting wdc0: busy too long, resetting wdc0: busy too long, resetting ... ... ... At this point, it's gone. I have an Adaptec ISA->ESDI controller card running two Micropolis ESDI drives. I tried low-level formatting both drives before I started the install, but that didn't seem to help anything (It dies regardless).
