Alvestrand) Newsgroups: comp.os.386bsd.misc Subject: 386bsd counter changed Date: 5 Jan 1994 13:46:02 GMT Organization: Uninett Lines: 39 Distribution: world Message-ID: <2gegaq$h0o@trane.uninett.no> NNTP-Posting-Host: domen.uninett.no It has been pointed out to me by several people that counting 386bsd users is pretty pointless at this point in time, if only the late "386bsd" distribution is intended. (The first one arrived from Canada, some 20 minutes after my posting...) So, I have changed the counter accordingly. The counter now only refers to the term "FreeBSD", which is unfortunately occupied by one distribution, but should be useful as a more generic term. You can send in registration for any BSD version that has source freely available. If you choose to register your machines, you should then list the CPU type and distribution that you use, naming NetBSD, 386bsd or FreeBSD as distributions. (For technical reasons, I needed the name to be one word - otherwise it would have been "Free BSD") For those who hate the thought of using the term 386bsd even in a mail address, the alias "bsd-counter@uninett.no" is provided. I hope this serves to clarify the matter! Oh, and by the way - the first 2 users have registered now. One from Ireland and one from Japan. Repeat basic message: If you use a free BSD-derived Unix (not Linux), send an E-mail to bsd-counter@uninett.no, with the subject line one of I use FreeBSD at home I use FreeBSD at school I use FreeBSD at work I do not use FreeBSD Happy voting! -- Harald Tveit Alvestrand Harald.T.Alvestrand@uninett.no G=Harald;I=T;S=Alvestrand;O=uninett;P=uninett;C=no +47 73 59 70 94 My son's name is Torbjørn. The letter between "j" and "r" is o with a slash.
