I seem to remember LILO talking about when in trouble do

fdisk /mbr 

with DOS 5.0 or later and this will nuke LILO.  Also remeber you need to keep 
the Linux parition around if you plan to continue to use LILO as a boot
manager.  I used to do that, but I find I like OS-BS much better....
