I recently compiled xv3.00a from the sources : and am having a strange problem with it. It compiles fine.. with no : warnings, nor errors.. But when run.. it simpy sits there.. does : nothing. Ive put it in the bg, fg, killed it repeatedly and re-ran it.. : but all to no avail.. no windows are made.. and seemingly no effort is : even made to create one. I honestly don't think that there is enough real memory on your machine for xv to run. With the NetBSD kernel taking up at least 1Mb, X another 1.5 -> 2, and various other programs taking at least 1 or 2 megs more, that leaves you with no real memory to load anything with. And xv is *really* big - I'm not sure about NetBSD, but on a Sparc, it takes up about 1.7Mb of physical memory. I'm not surprised in the least that you can't get it to work! : Also.. i was wondering if there was a way for me to increase my virtual : screen size to something like 1600x1200 even though i do not have video : memory to contain that. Is there any sort of program, or window manager : that would allow me to scroll around the screen like this, without loading : it all into VRAM? You mean put the data into hyper-virtual-setup-memory? Ahm, no. (But if you *do* find some way of doing it, please let me know :-) Seriously, though, depending on how it works, fvwm may be able to do something for you) Memory isn't *that* expensive. It would be worth your while saving up a few bucks to get some.
