Thanks for posting this. After wading through, I happened to glance up and notice my copy of Kernighan & Pike. The book is called _The UNIX Programming Environment_, without a (TM) or (R) on the cover or spine. Without opening the book, you can't tell that UNIX is a trademark of anyone. Anyone who looks through a book store could quite reasonably assume that UNIX refers to a family of operating systems rather than a specific AT&T product. Indeed, several book stores I frequent file books about SCO, XENIX, BSD, SVR4 and others under the generic label "Unix". -- J Greely (jgreely@cis.ohio-state.edu; osu-cis!jgreely)
