Good to hear I'm not alone. BTW, I rebooted also and next time I started
make in /sys/compiles/GENERICISA I removed some processes (routed, mountd,
lpd and what else there was not so important) and I got through.

The kernel I rebuilt contained the nfs_patch posted recently. Strange though
it was exactly the same in size (bytes) as the kernel in /. Didn't do a sum 
- maybe I trashed sum during installation of etc01.
