Which *BSD are you using?  If you are using FreeBSD, the default crypt
is installed in libc, so it should be using the default version which 
is compatible with all the system binaries.

If not, then I have no idea.

If you don't have libcrypt in FreeBSD by removing that line it should
give you a correctly working binary.  (This assumes you are using the
crypt() function that came with the stock system.
