I just got FreeBSD R1.0 installed and running from the boot floppies ftp from cdrom site. The basic unix stuff works fine, and the old DOS files are still there and visible in the unix file structure. I want to go back to working with some MS-DOS stuff while I gather more utilities and X via the net and floppies. So how to re-boot DOS?? Step 15. of FLOPPY INSTALLATION NOTES describes how to set up os-bs. I have the files on the HD under dos. BUT you have to have DOS running to run os-bs. All reboot combinations and reset insist on restarting FreeBSD, theres no options I can see anyplace. Theres also a note about using fdisk to change the boot system. fdisk -a gives an option to change the active partition. I tried changing from 3 to 0. (Part 0 is 'big' DOS, part 3 is 386BSD). When I say y to 'write new partition table' I get 'fdisk: Can't write fdisk partition table.' An earlier post suggested the method is: >fdisk /mbr This gets me 'fdisk: can't get file status of /mbr' Not surprising, there is no /mbr directory. Or is this a DOS command?? remember - we are not running DOS yet :) Any suggestions most welcome! TR.
