on FreeBSD systems, uncomment out the accton /var/account/acct line. If you
are running the Release code, be careful when booting a filesystem that
holds the /var/account/acct file that is 98% or more full will cause a
panic (this should have been corrected in FreeBSD-current and is in the
files on plains).

if you have 386bsd 0.1, then pull down the files from plains.NoDak.edu
(134.129.111.64) pub/386BSD/acct.shar. this should have instructions
on how to make the kernel.

in related news, there exists alpha GNU accounting programs (for example sa is
missing from net-2/386bsd/freebsd) that seem to work.
