Keywords: QIC-40 tape Nntp-Posting-Host: hibp0.ecse.rpi.edu Date: Mon, 27 Jul 1992 21:23:45 GMT Lines: 17 I have a QIC-40 tape drive that has been gathering dust since I dumped SCO XENIX for 386bsd. Having a small disk, I sure would like to be able to archive stuff. I have never written a driver before, but there is a first time for everything! The problem is, I have squat in the way of technical docs for it. I have not tried to contact the manufacturer yet, I will probably do this soon. Meanwhile, I wonder if anyone has any info on this type of drive. Right now, I am more interested in just making it go than I am in being able to read and write QIC-40 tapes. Does any one have experience with this type (i.e. floppy controller) tape drive interface? Does it vary between manufacturers ( mine is an Irwin, OEM archive). Do you have or know of any useful docs? Are there any big issues that I am missing? Thanks, Greg greg@megas.ecse.rpi.edu
