I can't seem to get NFS working for the life of me. I've got two
machines set up, both with the NFS client and server options turned on
in the kernel. One is a fully operational machine that also serves as
the nameserver (both machines are in the nameserver database with
their name to address mapping and the reverse); the other is a very
minimal machine that I want to mount the first machine's /usr volume
on. (/usr is also a filesystem.)
I've got both tcp and udp nfs daemons running on the server. I've got
the following /etc/exports file:
/usr -root=0 spartan
/usr/share
/tmp
(Spartan is the name of my client.) Mountd and nfsd are registered
with portmap. (I get appropriate errors if mountd isn't running.) But,
when I try to mount any of these file systems from single user mode on
the client or /usr/share or /tmp to /mnt on the host (through nfs) all
I get is a "Permission denied" error. This occurs with both TCP and
UDP connections. After I've tried to connect, showmount shows the
hosts as connected. Showmount -e shows my export lists as ok.
Nfsstat gives me the following (after a few dozen mount tries):

I'm at a complete loss here; what could I possibly be doing wrong?
