I used a copy of pfdisk someone sent me to create the NetBSD partition (in non-translation mode, since the DOS partition was within the 1024 cylinder limit) and used the sector offsets it gave me. It turned out that I'd been giving NetBSD the wrong offsets; it turns out that I was giving it an offset to the last cylinder of the DOS partition rather than the first cylinder of the NetBSD partition. It works just fine now. Thanks, everyone, for your help.
