Changing the Xconfig entry from "Logitech" to "Mouseman" helped.
This fix courtesy harringt@netcom.com.
He added "chordmiddle" to his Xconfig, but I had to use "Emulate3Buttons".
Seems to work fine now.  Don't know why it required a change.
