there should be
comp.os.linux.announce
comp.os.linux.apps
comp.os.linux.help
comp.os.linux.misc
comp.os.linux.questions
The last is the correct group for you.

The first login should be done as root without a password. Then, create
an user, give him a password and use this account from now on.
( You should give a password to root, too - of course )
