I have set VISUAL=emacs in my .mailrc file. Within mail in an xterm, the escape sequence ~v gives me a separate emacs screen as expected. However, if I log in via telnet with a vt100 terminal, and try the same thing, the screen hangs, and the only way out is ^Z. The obvious suggestion is to try VISUAL='emacs -nw' -- it doesn't work. I've encountered no such difficulties on any of the other unix boxes to which I have or had access. For what it's worth, there's a similar problem calling emacs as the editor for postings under tin. It works fine in an xterm window, but not otherwise. Is there something obvious that I'm missing? Thanks in advance. Rick Jardine
