AT&T is a major shareholder in USL. Consider the action analogous to putting pressure on advertisers who sponsor some offensive TV show or whatever. In this case it's even more significant as USL is closely-held (i.e. not openly traded on the stock market.) AT&T has a big vote on whether or not USL pursues the lawsuit.
