I was running 386bsd until a few days back when I decided to switch to
FreeBSD. I ftped the binary distribution files using slip on to my
machine and while extracting the binary distribution it bums out with
the following message after extracting /usr/bin/vacation

tar: skipping to next file header ...

After this I loaded all the binary distribution files on the diskettes
and loaded it on to my machine using load_fd. This time again the
extract process bums out but at the different point during extraction. I
tried "cat bin* | gunzip | tar tvf - | more " and again this also stops
somewhere inbetween. I also tried "cat bin* > distbin.tgz" and then
"gunzip distbin.tgz" and this time again it bums out with an error
message (crc error). I tried "cat bin* | gunzip | tar tvf -| more" on
the machine from which I ftped the files and it works fine there.

My hardware setup is 486dx33, 12M ram, 340 Meg IDE HD (WD 2340)
partitioned as 80Megs for dos and the rest for FreeBSD.

I have no idea why this is happening. Is there something wrong with my
HD? I would appreciate any help I can get on solving this problem. Thank
in advance.

Natraj.
