If something does a 'kill -1' on syslog (i.e. the hourly cron job that rotates the logs [hourly in the default crontab]), then my keyboard stops working. Everything else is ok. I have to cut the words 'shutdown now' from anything else that happens to be on the screen, and as soon as it exits X everything is fine. (it's really annoying when you can't find a 'w' on the screen!!)
