i am becoming more and more confused about the issue of disk
geometries. not being an expert on the subject, i don't know which
one is important for which application, and when i see disk geometry,
am i seeing physical? translated? BIOS?

all i want to do is this: have a FreeBSD partition and a DOS
partition. i installed FreeBSD with the default geometry, which
didn't work with a DOS partition. so, what do i need to do to get it
working with a DOS partition? if i need to re-partition, i have a
tape backup so that's not really a problem.

also, if i install another drive and put DOS on it, would i need to
re-partition my BSD drive just so they will work together?

please, these are simple questions, and i'm sure someone can provide
simple answers...
