Yup. there is a hardware problem. You were right Nate, unfortunately for me. 
Tonight my hard/floppy controller started getting errors, even though DOS
still doesn't have much of a problem with it. Under DOS I get an occasional
error. I guess it is slowly dying. Looks like I'll have to get a new one.
Sorry about all this, but I normally don't have harware problems. :)

Whenever I get the new controller I'll have to try it again.
