My new PC [486-66 high end system] for which I sold my beloved Amiga 3000 will be arriving within the next 2 weeks. I have been researching UNIX on the PC for around half a year. (this prompted the change in platforms) And I think I need a bit of help installing the networking stuff. I tried a 'test' install on a friends' machine to see if I could actually pull the whole thing off. And well, that is where the problem lies. Once I had the machine booted off of the floppies (3 install disks) and had set up the drives, I could not get the networking to function. I know the following info for the machine: IP address, Nameserver IP address, Gateway IP address, and Subnet Mask. I could not get ftp to function properly. *gack* Anyways, I wondered if someone could tell me specifically what files need to be changed, and how. The install info was not nearly illuminating as i hoped.
