A bit of followup on my posting. The fix for the middle mouse button problem
was the ChordMiddle keyword added to Xconfig; the console hang problem
was relieved by using /dev/vga instead of pccons. Thanks to Mark Weaver
for recommending both these solutions.

The com port open problem got a bit better when I moved some of the changes
from the NetBSD-current com.c driver into the NetBSD-0.9 driver. So I
now have a stable system. Thanks to all who helped.
