The new "ps" and various other utilities don't really like the old
kernel, and vice versa, so you may have a problem. I had my system
crash several times when I tried a top level "make install" while
running an old kernel, so perhaps the new kernel should be installed
before the new system utilities.
I would like to add the following:
* Tar the new system and upload it to an ftp site. Even unpolished-up
copy would help lots of people.
* Let everyone know where you put it.
