The old boot blocks should be able to boot a new kerne (unless it's too large), so they are not a problem. The new "ps" and various other utilities don't really like the old kernel, and vice versa, so you may have a problem. I had my system crash several times when I tried a top level "make install" while running an old kernel, so perhaps the new kernel should be installed before the new system utilities. I would like to add the following: * Tar the new system and upload it to an ftp site. Even unpolished-up copy would help lots of people. * Let everyone know where you put it. <sigh> -- Heikki Suonsivu, T{ysikuu 10 C 83/02210 Espoo/FINLAND, hsu@cs.hut.fi home +358-0-8031121 work -4513377 fax -4555276 riippu SN
