In terms of availability of 4.4-lite, Keith thought in about a month. CSRG (and the USL people) are busy combing over the kernel files changing them to meet the requirements of the lawsuit outcome. As for what will be missing from 4.4-lite: The same things that were missing from Net/2, with a couple of minor additions. In the kernel, support for executing files, doing physical I/O, managing the buffer cache, handling process tracing, terminal character I/O, and accounting are still missing. In addition, System V shared memory emulation will be missing from 4.4BSD-Lite. In user land, the cpio(1) utility has been deleted from 4.4BSD-Lite. We have also added a few freely redistributable implementations of standard utilities to the system since Net/2. The 4.4-lite tape will probably cost $1000 (U.S.) but the price won't be finalized until CSRG is ready to ship. As for availability of the manuals, CSRG is pushing for their publication but nothing has been finalized.
