I tried the /dev/vga solution... no luck. Then I tried the file redirection solution...still no luck. Finally I've tried the syscons approach, which may work. But I have a problem. I got the syscons-1.2 code from the BSD news archive (for those who don't know about it, telnet to minnie.cs.adfa.oz.au and login as bsdnews) and recompiled my kernel with it. The driver seems to work fine until I start XFree. It displays the running parameters, like the version #, graphics driver, etc. But when it gets to the part where it should say "Using syscons console driver" or something like that, it hangs instead. It's as if it doesn't recognize the driver. I was curious if anybody else had run into this problem and found a way to fix this. I have high hopes that the syscons driver will fix this stupid hanging problem. For the record, all my devices are configured according to the previous post by Nate Williams, with the console at 0, 0, and all those ttyv's, and of course the /etc/ttys entries. Has there been an update to the origianl syscons-1.2 package that I should know about, perhaps? Or maybe I'm just forgetting to do something. Those who reply, please list all the proper steps in installing syscons, so that I can see if I left out anything. Half the problem with these installs is that the documentation is sketchy at best. The authors seem to assume that you know exactly what to do after installing the code (not a flame just an observation :) Thanks... -- Damon Gallaty gt6525c@prism.gatech.edu "A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men..."
